FinnsAway adventure has begun!

After three weeks of selling, donating and recycling our belongings, cleaning up our apartment and raising toasts with some of our friends and family members, we have finally reached the point that we are ready to begin our new life and hit the road. First part of the FinnsAway adventure actually takes place here in Finland, since we decided to travel by car through Finland to the Baltic countries and elsewhere in eastern Europe. Everything that we still own (on top of our apartment that is still for sale) is packed in 2009 Nissan Tiida, our travel companion for at least the next few months. 🙂

Our current plan is to slowly drive through Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, and then hit the hiking trails in Slovakia, Romania and Moldova. We don’t have any fixed route or schedule even for this first part of the adventure, so we will be able to stop whenever we find some interesting towns, nature parks, islands or camping areas. We do have our own tent and other camping equipment with us, so at least when not staying in bigger cities, we will utilize camping sites for accommodation.

Before crossing the Gulf of Finland and leaving our home country behind, we are doing something that we never really had enough time in our previous life; visiting our friends and relatives in southern part of the country. In the beginning of August we will then take a ferry from the capital city of Finland, Helsinki to Tallinn in Estonia, and actually begin the nomad life abroad.
